This session will discuss breakthrough discoveries in mitochondrial biology and metabolism. These talks will include discoveries in model organisms and may also discuss findings in normal hematopoiesis. These fundamental discoveries will highlight new pathways and new mitochondrial biology relevant to blood cancer. This session on fundamental mechanisms will allow clinical and translational scientists to interact with basic metabolism experts and bring a multidisciplinary perspective to the workshop.
The session will feature talks by both new and established investigators.
Each speaker will speak for 10 minutes followed by 5min of questions. At the end of the session, there will be a panel discussion and Q&A guided by the moderator.
The 2023 session on fundamental discoveries in metabolism focused on mitochondrial pathways in HSCs. In this proposed session, we will incude a talk on mitochondrial metabolism that highlights new metabolites with importance for blood cancer. Based on feedback from 2023, we propose a talk on fundamental mechanisms related to mitochondrial dynamics. In our 2023 session, there was signficant interest in how mitochondrial dynamics could be targeted therapeutically.So, we will build on this interest and include a talk regarding fundamental mechanisms of mitochondrial fussion and fission.
We believe this session will highlight new mechanisms and spark collaboration for translational research interested in targeting mitochondrial dynamics in blood cancer
