Description:

This session will focus on three common clinical problems that often challenge the consulting hematologist.

Dr. Klion will review the spectrum of eosinophilic disorders, from benign eosinophilia to eosinophilic leukemia. Mechanisms of eosinophil-associated pathogenesis and general approaches to treatment will also be discussed.

Dr. Valent will discuss the biology, diagnosis, classification and management of mastocytosis. He will review state of the art concepts in mastocytosis and will present diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms for various groups of patients. In addition, Dr. Valent will discuss the efficacy of various drugs used to treat patients with mastocytosis, and will review the effects of these drugs on the quality of life and overall outcome in these patients.

Dr. Winter will discuss challenging clinical scenarios involving lymphocytosis and/or lymphadenopathy. She will address how pathologic, molecular and imaging studies may help or sometimes confuse us in these situations.
