Training Program Directors’ Workshop and Business Meeting

Thursday, December 4, 2008: 1:00 PM-8:00 PM
Yerba Buena Ballroom Salons 4-6 (San Francisco Marriott)

The ASH Training Program Directors’ Workshop provides an interactive forum for directors of all hematology-related training programs to learn from the experts and from each other. This year’s Workshop will include: • A plenary session on requirements and new initiatives from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and Residency Review Committee (RRC) for Internal Medicine; • Presentations and panel discussion on alternative training pathways for trainees interested in hematology-oriented careers; and • Two mini-workshops on remediation of the disruptive or struggling fellow and developing and maintaining fellow educational portfolios and program improvement tools. This program will provide training program directors with outstanding opportunities to learn about prevalent issues facing training programs and will facilitate the sharing of best practices in critical areas. Program directors who complete this program will be eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. To facilitate this program, we are asking participants to send examples of their relevant “best practices” and experiences related to the above topics to training@hematology.org. These materials will be used to facilitate group interactions and discussions. Similar to last year, we will conclude the workshop with a reception and a training program directors’ dinner, during which the annual business meeting will be held. Please note the date and the combination of the Training Program Directors Workshop and business meeting and make your travel plans accordingly.
